I hope that when all of this is said and done, and I'm in the new apartment and there is a Kip in it, that I will still be psyched about opening my home up and having people over. Twice in two nights, now, I've hung out with folks in my neighborhood, including partially inside my house, which has never, ever happened so much in such a short span of time and now, in the last days of my time living alone, I wish I'd done it more. I may have to have a party in the empty apartment once the movers take my stuff - I have nearly two weeks between moving and vacating.

Also, if you're in my hood and curious about Pomme de Terre...just go already. Believe the hype, it IS that good. But make a reservation, as everyone else already knows how good it is.

Also also, happy 4th of July. Even if it's not Independence Day for you. I'll be celebrating with roasted meats and beer. Perhaps I can even be persuaded to talk about something other than moving for a brief time. Try me tomorrow if you see me. Please. I'm starting to go move-crazy. ("...starting?")

We Interrupt this program for an urgent GeekAlpha News Break [Jul. 3rd, 2008|03:15 pm]

geekalpha
I am GeekAlpha with today's urgent breaking news.

Dateline Seattle:

Witnesses were shocked when a local man used the word "literally" to mean "in an actual manner" instead of "metaphorically, but with emphasis." Authorities are on the scene, but their local spokesman says that so far no casualties have yet been discovered, as the search for survivors continues.

In other late breaking news, the word "unique" was used without the qualifier "very." No one understood what it meant.

This is GeekAlpha, with the GeekAlpha Network News Team. We will continue to monitor this developing story and we will give you literally up-to-the-femtosecond coverage, reporting all the very unique details as they are revealed.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

REMAIN BLESSED [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:11 pm]

mrfurious
From: Mrs.susan fernando

ENDEAVOUR TO USED IT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD.

I am the above named person from Kuwait. I am married to Dr SAZON FERNANDO
who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he
died in the year 2005.We were married for eleven years without a child.
Hedied after a brief illness that lasted for only four days.

Before his death we were both born again Christians.Since his death I decided
not to
re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is
against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of 18Million
Dollars (eighteen Million United State Dollars) with one finance/security
company in Amsterderm-Netherlands. Presently,

This money is still with theSecurity Company. Recently, my Doctor told me that
I would not last forthe next three months due to cancer problem. Though what
disturbs me most
is my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this
Fund to church or better still a christian individual that will utilize
this money the way I am going to instruct here in.

I want a church that will use this funds to fund churches, orphanages and
widows propagating the
word of God and to ensure that the house of God is maintained. The Bible
made us to understand that Blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this
decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and
my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's
hard earned money to be misused by unbelievers. I don't want a situation where
this money will be used in an ungodly manner.

Hence the reason for taking this bold decision. I am not afraid of death hence
I know where I am
going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS
14 says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I
don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health
and because of the presence of my husband's relatives around me always. I
don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are
possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of
the Finance/Security Company in Amsterderm-Netherlands.

I will also issue you a letter of authority that will prove you as the
original- beneficiary
of this Funds. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the
lord is my shephard. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy
Christian. Whoever that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit
and truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life. Any delay in
your reply will give me room in sourcing for a church or christian
individual for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act
accordingly as I stated herein. Hoping to hearing from you. I have set
aside 20% for you and for your time and 10% for any enpense if there is
any . Remain blessed in the name of the Lord. Yours in Christ,

Mrs. susan fernando

RTA considers raising fares, cutting routes and jobs

Increasing fares, yes.

Cutting routes and jobs -- horrible idea. Exactly the opposite of what we desperately need in an economic tailspin with a huge increase in gas costs.

*sigh* We'll see what happens. I'm concerned.

1. Thunderstorms are awesome, and the lightning last night was fantastic to watch. When I was stationed in Florida, I used to sit on the barracks roof in the afternoons and watch the lightning jump through the solid mass of angry clouds that streamed overhead. A good storm once in a while makes me feel at home.

Lightning is God's mighty fireworks.

2. My cats are needy. I think they suspect that I have been petting a bunny. Now they are always calling me to check up on me at work. They always want to know exactly when I am coming home and who I am with, and they keep checking my clothing for anyone else's fur.

3. This is interesting. An author allowed himself to be water boarded and it was filmed. Interestingly, I expected it to look much more brutal than it does, but it certainly left an impression on the author.

cut for cynical snark )

4. In other, much happier news, I command you to watch this video!

ORDER THIS SHIT

In Comic Shops This November!

'Bout time we had a "Wolves of Odin" update around here! ;) I'm happy to announce that "Wolves" has a publisher, a release date (well, a release month), and the official website/blog is now up and running: WolvesofOdin.com! Obviously it's bare bones at the moment, but there'll be lots of updates and other goodies over the next few months. And you can sign up for the newsletter - there's a little box on the site, be sure to check that out.

The book (a graphic novella, as it were) will be published by SRG, also known as Super Real Graphics, which is run by my pal Jason Martin, who himself is a talented creative machine. There were several factors leading up to my decision to go with SRG -- I liked the idea of going with a smaller indie publisher, I liked the idea of having complete creative control over the book (I'm still doing everything - writing, drawing, coloring, everything), and I liked the format of the "SRG Presents" graphic novellas. I really dug the page quality, the price point, the size, the look.. Everything just seemed to click, and Jason was really excited about publishing the book, so that's how the ball got rolling. I feel like the end result will be awesome for everyone.

The book is set to appear in the September issue of Previews and will be hitting comic shops in November.. and of course will be available on Amazon and all that good stuff. Rest assured, I'll be keeping everyone up to date on the latest news both here and on the official "Wolves" site.. Lots more to come, people! :)

Grab your swords and get ready...

Bwah! Our famously anti-porn president's stimulus package has been a direct windfall to the adult entertainment industry

Some potentially exciting news in research on herpes

One of the issues I feel most strongly about: "Why We Need to Put Science Back in Government". I highly recommend his book, "The Republican War on Science"; it's horrifying and edifying.

Morgentaler among those named to Order of Canada (more about him, and exactly why he is immensely deserving of this honor)

Edit:
Oh, WOW! Key scenes from Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” have been rediscovered, film is now complete!

it is very very quiet here at work. only a couple of people in the office, and not much happening. i can get my few to do list items done and even get a head start on some stuff for next week. nice.

we get to bring oscar home tonight! i can't wait. we went for a visit last night, and he has definitely improved. he is SO skinny now though. not skinny. emaciated. and weak. he had a little trouble jumping and walking. i never thought i would see him that way. i hope he starts putting weight back on immediately.

so happy for a long weekend, with few plans. we might see a couple of movies, and church on sunday, but also a lot of time relaxing at home.

we had a terrific rainstorm as i was falling asleep last night, and laying in bed watching it, i felt quiet joy and gratitude and peace. in spite of our worry about oscar, it has been a wonderful week.

It's got a backbrain, you can't lose it... [Jul. 3rd, 2008|10:37 am]

So at 5 o'clock this morning, I asked my hind brain, "Alrighty then, what *will* happen if you/I/we just relax and be happy?"

*SOMETHING TERRIBLE WILL HAPPEN*

"Okay, so let me get this straight -- the only thing keeping something terrible from happening right now..."

*IS MY ANXIETY*

"...and if I stop worrying that something terrible will happen?"

*SOMETHING TERRIBLE WILL HAPPEN*

Why, yes, gentle reader, after I stopped laughing at myself, I did go back to sleep. For another 5 hours. Huzzah!!!

(Edit: And now I want an LOLcat of "Is my anxiety!")

[info]grf and I leave after I get off work for Baltimore. I woke up at 3:30 or so, and have been packing, burning CDs, clearing out the DVR, and all the other trivia before I head out. Really should go back to sleep, but I'm all bouncy and excited.
